There’s<\/span>\u00a0a phrase in the Chinese tea world that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>people pay close attention to<\/span><\/span>: \u660e\u524d (M\u00edng qi\u00e1n) \u2014 literally ‘before the Qingming Festival.’
It refers to tea picked before the 5th of April each year, the traditional marker of when spring has properly arrived. This tea, harvested in those precious early weeks, is considered the finest of the season.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We go one step further. The Xi Hu Long Jing we brought in this year was picked on March 19th \u2014 the very first day of the official 2026 harvest season. First flush. First\u00a0<\/span>pickings<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Right at the beginning of the season.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What Sets First Flush Apart<\/strong>
Think of it this way: after a long,\u00a0cold winter, the tea plant has been storing its energy for months.\u00a0When the first tender leaves finally push through in early spring, they carry all of that stored energy in concentrated form. The leaves are smaller, more delicate, and\u00a0naturally rich in what gives Long Jing its signature character \u2014 a gentle sweetness and a clean, fresh finish.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As the season progresses, the leaves become more robust and the flavour profile shifts. <\/span>Later harvests can still be enjoyable<\/span>, but the first few days of picking produce something <\/span>noticeably\u00a0<\/span>different \u2014 a delicacy and a <\/span>freshness\u00a0<\/span>that doesn’t come back until the following year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
